Maxwell graduated from Hartford with a BA in English with a focus in creative writing in 2011. He served as an editor and secretary for Aerie, University of Hartford's literary magazine from 2007 to 2011. He was President of the Eta Upsilon Chapter of AEPi from 2009 to 2010, and on the executive board of Hartford's chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society (2010-2011).

Between 2011 and 2013 he took classes t the University of South Carolina and worked The Daily Gamecock as a Copy Editor and became Copy Desk Chief.
He completed his MA (2014) and MFA (2015) at Wilkes University with a focus in fiction and publishing. His books span genres from comedy and romance to sci-fi and horror. And he is a contributor to Chicken Soup for the Soul.

Maxwell is the owner and Editor-In-Chief of Door Is A Jar literary magazine. Founded in 2015, Door Is A Jar is a quarterly print and ebook publication of poetry, short fiction, nonfiction, drama, artwork, and book reviews that connect with the everyday reader.
